AWS Tucson Dining at Vila Thai, August 26th 2008
Thanks to Phil Derkum and Flora Yee for setting up this excellent dinner for us! We had a small group brave a late Monsoon rainstorm to find the restaurant down by the UoA. Phil coordinated a three course, five wine dinner for only $40/pp tax & tip included. Vila’s staff was outstanding, we were warmly welcomed into the restaurant and had an excellent table. Vila also outdid herself – instead of five wines, she had selected ten wines for us to sample. Amazing! And… she provided notes on all the wines for each of us to take home.
We started off with a McWilliams Reisling, a Ruffino Lumina Pinot Grigio, a Bonterra Sauvignon Blanc, a Sokol Blosser NV, a Spanish Quarter Chardonay aLBarino (Spain), 2007 Tamari (Argentina), Houghton Chardonay Verdelho for whites, then moved on to Root 1 Cabernet Sauvignon, Bogle 2006 Zinfandel, 2007 Reserva Camenere, and a Don Miguel Gascon Malbec. The group decided to purchase a Thai wine to sample with the dinner also.
I saw quite a few wine events this summer for Vila Thai. Vila said that her Friday night tastings were really popular. So.. if you missed dining with us be sure to find this gem and take an opportunity to introduce yourself to some of Tucson’s finest Thai food and excellent wines!
